UK etc

Should have had this update sooner... Blame social media.

Back in November MOHAIR SWEETS played a first ever UK gig and it went great. Couldn't have asked for a better band than the mighty PHROGS to have my back -- and they did in spades!

The set was made up of a mix of originals, some choice covers and some at the Phrogs suggestion.

We were able to rehearse in the basement of the venue - the mighty RAILWAY HOTEL in Southend on Sea. After a couple of brief run throughs we seem to have had it nailed. The folks in attendance  seemed to agree.

The PHROGS themselves started off the evening and then I joined them for the second set.

Couple of incomplete videos are found on the Mohair Sweets youtube page but of course I included them here...

Last thing going for the next while is a quick gig at the Orbit Room on DEC 8/18 before Mohair Sweets sets up camp in the Windsor/Detroit area. No gigs yet but watch this space.

Mohair meets Michigan

Just back from a weekend trip for a couple of gigs in Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In Ann Arbor we played with the STOMP ROCKETS and SCOTT MORGAN/THE SIGHTS at the Blind Pig.
The show was everything we'd hoped it would be  -- sound was great, bands were fantastic and the people absolutely unbelievable. I/we cannot thank you all enough for your kindness, good humor and generosity.
The next night in Grand Rapids at the incredible TIP TOP DELUXE we opened for our pal TAV FALCO'S PANTHER BURNS. The night lead off act was a local band called Lazy Genius. Wow! Check them out here: LAZY GENIUS
Again, the venue and staff were incredible, the sound perfect, the crowd super cool and the band people so generous and good natured.
It was 22/23 hours each way there but it was worth every minute of it to have the experience.
Some photos and video coming later but for now -- thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Yeah the photo is a cliche but when in the Motor City one must make the trip!

New Untouchables review

From the New Untouchables website:

MOHAIR SWEETS – An Introduction To… Mini LP

Winnipeg’s (yes that one in Canada) Mohair Sweets, led by songmaster/guitarman Colin Bryce offer a super R&B tingling Introduction collection from the past 4 or so years catalogue, which hits big across the spectrum of Bluesy-Punky-Rockin’ energy with 5 obscure covers from 7 total tracks with a nice mix of jaunty twangy Feelgood arrangements and renditions festooned with true grit and frantic drive, with my own fave being ‘The Green Light’ (a Bryce classic) with the ever tight band smashing through these fine tunes with a familiar yet fresh abandon with the slower bluesy workouts matching the very best out there, for deep heart and soul. A November, UK visit is planned we hear too, for lovers of the live and direct kind! In the meantime, this fine collection is available for pre-order very soon! Do not miss out! Go Here!

Working like a ....

I hate web page design.

Trying to get new things up and running for a guy like me is a total drag.

More important things to do anyway. Like get a couple of new EPs together!

Not sure the date of the "introduction to..." thing we've been working on but in the next month or so it should hit the streets as it were.
It will feature some of the more "straight up" things from the previous releases and a bonus track that I think will be a nice surprise for all you country music fans. Uh... yeah, country, that's me.

Update January 2018

It's been a quiet winter so far but MOHAIR SWEETS is headed back to the studio to do a promo CD for radio/press that includes a number of the more straight forward things from the EP's with a special bonus recording of Detroit C&W legend Skeets McDonald. Has MOHAIR SWEETS gone country? Uh, no. More of a continuation of a love of Detroit based music and fairly obscure artists and their music that can fit into how we do things around here.

Watch this space for more news on the sessions for another new EP of all original material that I hope to have ready for early summer.

Later in the year I also hope to announce a UK date that would satisfy a long held dream of mine.
More on that later.

I've also been working on getting some archive zine material and the new mohairsweets.ca website up to speed.
My pal Jason G Eastwood is helping out there. Please visit his websites and have a listen to his fabulous new CD!

Stay warm kids.

Mohair Sweets' DETROIT debut!

Be there or be forever square. CB
